The museum building itself is a highly photogenic ex-train station with a Beaux-Arts façade and an interior iron skeleton. In the square nearby, you’ll see the six sculptures built on occasion of the 1900 International Expo, each representing a different continent.

Joris-Karl Huysmans Art Critic.
From Degas to Grünewald, in the Eye of Francesco Vezzoli

26 November 2019 - 1 March 2020
A crucial writer at the end of the 19th century, Joris-Karl Huysmans (1848-1907) remains an art critic little known or misunderstood by the general public. His contribution to the artistic press and the aesthetic debate was however as decisive as the impact of his novel "Against Nature". Rather fond of Hals and Rembrandt until then, Huysmans admitted how decisive his discovery of Degas in 1876-1879 was. However, his art critic immediately admits the possibility of a double modernity. That of painters of modern life and that of dream explorers is not mutually exclusive.
